SUMMARY: In partnership with the Electrical Team Leader, the Electrical Engineer has a responsibility for a project’s electrical system design and implementation. The Engineer is responsible for the successful delivery of medium to large building projects, developing project concepts and budgets, completing site assessments, and writing reports to create solutions for our clients. This position is also responsible for managing and mentoring a team of Engineers and Designers. REQUIRED EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Licensed PE
  • 10+ years’ project engineering experience in all phases of project.
  • Experience working in integrated teams.
  • Leadership ability working in a consultancy environment.
  • Experience with healthcare, government, and education projects.
  • Ability to demonstrate advanced technical knowledge in Engineering and a broad knowledge of engineering systems, calculations, and construction methods.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, BIM.
  • ARCH FLASH experience a plus.
  • Experience with complex analysis tools for electrical design.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs and supervises preparation of technical drawings and assessment reports.
  • Development of typical details, specifications, and drawing standards, including development of Revit standards in coordination with the team.
  • Keeps abreast of industry and technology changes and trends, and recommends changes in approach and services, as appropriate.
  • Provide design inputs and reviews of other engineer’s projects to verify it conforms to quality assurance, quality control, and best practice standards.
  • Performs site visit surveys to determine engineering strategies, and to document and evaluate existing systems.
  • Visits project sites during construction for reviews of quality, progress, and compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Reviews and provides input on “Request for Information” and “submittals” during the construction administration phase.
  • Attend and participate in Owner-Architect-Contractor meetings as required.
  • Mentors engineering staff.
  • Responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support, as necessary.
  • Works on developing a positive relationship of trust with the team.
  • Provides technical support and project communications to team, as required.
  • Participates in team meetings to help resolve project issues, coordination with other disciplines, schedule adherence, technical issues.
  • As needed, provides support to Business Development, including write-ups of key aspects of projects and presentation of work at industry events.
  • Works with Marketing in preparing submittals and qualifications.

SUMMARY: With supervision from the Project Engineer, the Senior Electrical Designer creates mechanical drawings using Revit and coordinates with the design team using BIM. This role works as a member of the project design team to coordinate the design development, production, and delivery of engineering documents. Some assignments require independent action and decision making. This position reports to the Electrical Engineering Team Leader. REQUIRED EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE:

  • High school diploma required. Bachelor of Science in Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of electrical drafting and/or design experience from concept to client delivery s.
  • Experience working on healthcare, government, education, and/or technology project design.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of integrated design and architecturally significant buildings.
  • Proficiency in Revit and BIM required.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of plans, sections diagrams and equipment schedules, and drawings.

  • Develops and modifies Revit models of electrical systems and components including one-line diagrams, power distribution, lighting, panel schedules, and communication systems according to established standards and Revit modeling techniques with minimal input from the Project Engineer.
  • Checks model for design interferences with other building elements and resolves conflicts.
  • Produces equipment schedules and details making changes and adjustments as necessary with input from the engineering team.
  • Sizes simple electrical systems.
  • Assists Team Leader and Project Manager in ensuring that documentation for all phases conforms to QA/QC and Johnston Best Practice Standards.
  • Visits project sites during construction administration to conduct quality, progress, and compliance review with design documents.
  • Mentors and directs the work of less experienced design team members.
  • Actively seeks new knowledge related to engineering practices, principles, and regulation changes.
